The Action Man Mountaineer retired and was replaced, in part, by the Mountain Rescue outfit, with it's climbing ladder. The suction cups could be threaded with rope, to allow Action Man to climb smooth surfaces - normally a window. In the information leaflet, it was suggested by Palitoy that the Action Man Mountain Rescue figure was paired up with the Action Man Landrover, Helicopter and Tent:
MOUNTAIN RESCUE: Anorak, helmet, goggles, knee breeches, socks, boots, crampons, pitons, karabiners, rope, rope ladder, ice pick, information leaflet. Equipment Manual.
MOUNTAIN RESCUE: Anorak, helmet, goggles, knee breeches, socks, boots, crampons, pitons, karabiners, rope, rope ladder, ice pick, information leaflet. Equipment Manual.
The Mountaineer first appeared in 1969 and donates a few pieces to the new the Mountain Rescue set. The ice pick now omits the Union Jack as does the Anorak (possibly because a wider world marketplace). The Mountain Rescue's top would be more appropriately named 'cagoule', not Anorak. The orange Anorak has no fur edging to hood and carries the Action Man logo - a material printed patch at first then regressing to paper). The white rimmed goggles also progressed from elastic strap to plastic. The boots are the black lace-up type and the socks a smooth nylon type dark brown. Knee breeches are a darker brown than the Mountaineer's. His helmet is orange (unlike the Mountaineer's which was white).
