Equipment Manual
[1972] Olympic Champion Description:
The Olympic Champion [Athlete] occurs twice in the Action Man Equipment Manual. In 1969 an Action Man Olympic Champion was created after a rather successful Olympics in Mexico, wearing a striking Action Man orange two piece tracksuit. The Olympic Champion of 1972 landed just in time for the next Olympics in Munich and sported a metallic blue tracksuit and gained a much more patriotic Union Jack on his singlet [vest]. Ironically it was an 'Action Woman' in Mary Peters who would steal the limelight at this Olympics. Either are rare sets, especially the earlier in complete form - many of the bits that make them up go missing over time.
Notes:
The Olympic Champion is hard to find in undamaged condition. The joining piece in the javelin is usually missing or repaired, the putt missing, along with the discus. The singlet Union Jack colours can run if a wash is attempted. The display stand is not part of this second issue set. Pictured is a excellent condition vintage Action Man of 1972 (a year before gripping hands would have held the sports equipment successfully) wearing the later Olympic Champion set.
