Equipment Manual
[1969] Olympic Champion Description:
The Olympic Champion [Athlete] occurs twice in the Action Man Equipment Manual, once in 1969, after David Hemery's 400m hurdles success at the Olympics in Mexico - wearing an orange tracksuit. Later an Olympic Champion of 1972 was produced just in time perhaps preempting British success for the '72 Munich Olympics. Both Action Man Olympic Champion set are a rarity, especially this earlier one in complete form - many of the bits that make them up go missing over time.
Notes:
The Olympic Champion is hard to find in undamaged condition. The joining piece in the javelin is usually missing or repaired, the putt missing, along with the discuss. The tracksuit was also available in blue on an accessory card - intended perhaps more for the Action Footballer of the same year. Pictured is a vintage 1966 Action Man wearing a 40th anniversary set dating from 2006 which is virtually identical. These images will be replaced with vintage pieces as soon as possible.
