Action Man Sea Wolf Description:

"Brave the terrors of the deep with Action Man. In his new Sea Wolf he can perform underwater tasks safely. The Sea Wolf has its own air pump to control diving and surfacing" read the 1977 Action Man Equipment Manual. The blue-grey plastic Sea Wolf is a well conceived toy and allowed an Action Man to be submerged in water by remote control up to 4 feet deep. A squeezable hand-held device was connected by a single air line to the submersible. By switching a plug on the handset the submersible could be fed air (to surface) or lose air (dive). The main body of the submersible has vents that allow the compartment to be flooded, with the exception of the glazed dome, which acts as a diving bell and buoyancy aid. The hinged transparent dome is opened by sliding the periscope housing forward. An Action Man Frogman would be seated inside and had (supplied with Sea Wolf) his own facemask and breathing line. The bow has a grab arm and cine-camera. The stern has two dive fins, and a rudder. A sticker sheet was supplied for careful application by 'older brother or grown up.'

Notes:

The Sea Wolf is actually a submersible (not a submarine as Palitoy describe it as, as it is reliant on external support for air and control) and was based on the US Hasbro GI Joe Sea Wolf. The GI Joe version was white, and included a giant light grey squid as part of the adventure. Sea Wolfs are rare in complete condition and indeed, with correctly applied decals. The see-through hatch dome can yellow and crack, and has a weak hinge, and the extremities of the sub can break off if knocked. A small black plug in the top of the dome is fundamental to the sub working underwater and the instructions warn that loss of this is game over. The Sea Wold (Submarine) appears in the 1977 Equipment Manual, and is last seen as available in 1978's. The 'current' figure in 1977 was the new dynamic physique Eagle Eyed Action Man.
