Assault Copter Description:
An Adaptation to the earlier Helicopter, this time with much more fire power - rocket racks and a M60 Machine Gun and belt. A new Action Man Helicopter Pilot was also released and pictured on the box art to fly the aircraft. A Pursuit Craft Pilot was pictured on the later Capture Copter Box. It appears for the first time in the 1981 Equipment Manual fold out sheet with a pilot.
Notes:
The Assault Copter was a Hasbro helicopter with Palitoy designed missile system. The Assault Copter's windscreen is often marked. The yellow elastic bands that hold the Helicopter's rotor blades in can perish but excellent replacements are available here. The skids can easily break or have repairs as can the tail section. When this type of plastic is stressed it lightens in colour at the point of stress. The Assault Copter's winch works by turning a thumb screw, and the rotors by repeatedly pressing a button (see images). The Rockets fire by pulling out sprung plungers and hooking them back. To release rockets was a case of tapping the plunger tab upward. A Helicopter first appeared on the 1973 Equipment Manual cover and would be superseded in 1983 with a black SAS Airstrike version. Replacement stickers are available here. Thanks to Tom for loan of this aircraft.
