The 1983 Action Man SAS Parachute Attack owes its roots to the successful conclusion of the London Iranian Embassy hostage crisis of 1980 by the 'Special Air Service' or SAS. The set (figure not included) came with authentic looking HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) equipment and a parachute and lines made of black plastic rather than material like issues of before. The Action Man SAS Parachute Attack boxed figure was preceded by an SAS outfit and an Action Man boxed 'Key Figure'. A popular figure for obvious reasons and very of it's time. He complemented a mini-range which included SAS Beachhead attack, SAS Airstrike, SAS Underwater Attack and SAS Secret Mission.
The Eagle Eye Action Man SAS Parachute Attack set was issued with an all-in-one black jumpsuit with elasticated ankles (the same type as other SAS figures), and HALO breathing equipment in the form of a chest pack ('Oxygen Control Box') with oxygen tubes. The black parachute harness was attached to webbing that was one piece - ingeniously clipping together around arm tops, chest and waist. He is correctly pictured armed with his black SAS M16 - the one in the set is all black unlike the common woodgrain and brown painted versions. His complex webbing carried a bayonet/knife and scabbard and a canteen/water bottle. His SAS Parachute Attack helmet should have the yellow SAS dagger and wings on the reverse (paper sticker) and the visor should slide up and down by way of a small lever and slot on the top front. Other items were available separately on other SAS Sets.
